India participated in the race to conquer the Moon
The Indian Space Research Agency (ISRO) said it hopes to launch an unmanned probe to the Moon within the next three years. ISRO is currently preparing for this conquest by launching a trajectory exploration ship in January 2007.
According to the Indian Express , ISRO will launch a 50 kilogram probe in January of this year, then let it land in the Bay of Bengal after 15-30 days of ' travel ' around the Earth.
Last month, ISRO also announced it would send an unmanned probe to Mars in 2013 to find evidence of life. According to Hindustan Times , this 6-8 month mission will cost India 3 billion rupees ($ 67 million).
