The government of Patna city, Bihar state, northern India has injected people with the Covid-19 vaccine ZyCov-D.

Earlier this year, the Government of India approved the emergency use of the ZyCov-D vaccine. Through clinical trials, the vaccine was about 66% effective in symptomatic cases.

Unlike most other Covid-19 vaccines, ZyCoV-D is delivered with 3 injections, with intervals of 28 and 56 days, respectively, from the first dose. In particular, this vaccine does not use needles. Doctors use a device that propels a high-pressure fluid to deliver the vaccine through the surface of the skin.

The Drug Administration of India (DCGI) has approved the use of this vaccine for children aged 12 to 17 years.

Zydus Cadila's vaccine is the second vaccine researched and produced by India licensed for use in the country, after the Covaxin vaccine of Bharat Biotech Pharmaceutical Company.

The Indian authorities are continuing to accelerate the year-long vaccination campaign for the people. More than 93% of the adult population in the country has been vaccinated with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while more than 69.8% have been fully vaccinated, according to data from the Ministry of Health of India. The national rate of Covid-19 recovered patients has improved to about 95%.
