Inside Europe's largest subway tunnel

A $ 96 billion, 96.5km tunnel network linking east and west London, England, is about to be completed and running.

The new video from the Crossrail construction company revealed the view inside the Elizabeth tunnel from the cockpit as the first ships dashed through the concrete tunnel, CNN reported. It is expected that the Crossrail will carry 200 million passengers a year when it opens in December 2018.

The overhead cable used to power the train allowed engineers to begin testing. In the video, the journey as the train descends into the ground to enter the 42km tunnel, just like the scene in 'Star Wars'.

As Europe's largest engineering project, the Elizabethan Crossrail Tunnel honors the Queen, much larger than London's current Tube Tunnel. The 96.5km (both above and below) track will link Reading City to the west of London with Shenfield and Abbey Wood to the east. The train will stop at 41 stations along the way, including Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf.

Rapidly underneath the city at a speed of nearly 97km / h, the train will be faster and more efficient than London's Underground Underground network over 150 years in service. Traffic planners hope the project will help reduce the burden on the Underground, which has to transport 1.37 billion visitors a year.

The new automated train system is being tested between Abbey Wood in south east London and the Canary Wharf financial center. As expected, hundreds of test runs will be conducted before the road.
