Invent a bowl made from leaves, replacing a toxic foam food container

With dishes from this leaf, Thai authors hope they will preserve a better living environment.

Stemming from concerns about the increase in the use of environmental styrofoam- based food containers, a team at Naresuan University created and developed a bowl from the leaves. These bowls are self-biodegradable and waterproof.

The professors in the university's technology department have spent more than a year successfully developing this production process, creating sturdy, useful bowls from leaves to replace foam food containers.

These bowls can hold hot water without leaking.

Through many trials and errors, the team discovered that the leaves of three plants: bastard teak, teak and banyan are the best materials for making food dishes.

These bowls can hold hot water without leaking and they are capable of decomposing in nature after finishing use.

Head of Sirintip Tantanee Department said the bowls are in the process of patent pending, but the technology department will coordinate with the city council to promote their use at annual culinary festivals. held during Songkran and New Year holidays.

Samorn Hiranpraditsakul - professor of industrial engineering also shared the inspiration to create environmentally friendly bowls . It was after she visited a temple in northern Thailand, where she witnessed the sight of spongy dishes with the risk of causing environmental pollution to be arranged into giant stacks.

The team used starch to add shine to the dishes from this leaf. The product will be introduced to the public during Songkran in April this year with many different styles.
