Israel develops contact lenses for people with color blindness
According to Optics Letters, scientists at Tel Aviv University (Israel) have developed a unique type of contact lenses for people who are color blind, namely cases of deuteranomaly.

This visual disorder is more common in men and due to the fact that retinal photoreceptors, which are responsible for their sensitivity to green color, react to the yellow-red portion of the spectrum.
Although now there are types of glass to adjust the correct color perception, the new glasses are very convenient. Israeli scientists have created an ultra-thin optical element suitable for implantation into conventional lenses. They used a membrane of elliptical gold nanotubes. Such a surface has special optical properties. It can properly refract light waves passing through.
Such films were previously only used on planes, but Israeli scientists have created a technology that allows them to be applied to convex contact lenses without altering the optical properties of membrane.
The result is a factor that simultaneously corrects color perception and improves vision with anomalies such as focus disturbances of retinal images. The scientists plan clinical trials before mass production.
