Jules Verne ship prepares supplies for ISS Station
At the Kourou Space Center, French Guiana, the autopilot (ATV) Jules Verne of the European Space Agency (ESA) has just passed an important period in December: the ship has been loaded. to bring to ISS International Space Station.
The first is clean water and supplies to the group traveling on the ISS Station which has been put into the ship under absolute clean conditions, in order to avoid any risk of infection. 280 liters of water brought by Jules Verne will be transferred to the Russian Zvezda modules after connecting to the space station.
The rest of the supplies (about 1.3 tons in weight) was paralleled in the Jules Verne pressure regulator module. This module mainly contains food (550kg), clothes (80kg) and accessories and equipment transferred to Guyane last October.
Finally, the pressure regulator module is locked and can only be opened once it is put into orbit to connect to the ISS Station. The module will be approached by the traveling team through a pressure chamber.
The Jules was scheduled to launch in mid-February, but the launch time could be delayed due to the delays of the Atlantis shuttle STS-22's mission to bring the Columbus lab to the ISS Station. The ship will be put into orbit by an Ariane-5 missile.
