Klymit Ulaar, super-insulated jacket

Recently Klymit (a company specializing in researching apparel technologies) has successfully researched a new product, Ulaar, which uses a completely new insulation technology. Ulaar does not use thick layers of cotton or fur to insulate, instead using a completely new insulation material, Argon.

The jacket is made from two layers of thin fabric and pumps Argon gas into the interior, like a life jacket. Especially you can adjust the amount of Argon gas in the shirt, if you cool you can pump more to keep warm, and if the heat can discharge air out.

Klymit calls this NobleTeck technology , a technology that has been around since 2009 but has only been applied to the Ulaar line. This technology uses rare gases such as Argon to insulate, as they have very low thermal conductivity. In its tests Klymit showed that with a thickness of 4.5mm Argon gas has the same thermal insulation capacity as a 14mm layer of the best insulation.

Thus the Ulaar jacket can keep warm better with a thin fabric like a regular jacket. In addition, the gas-insulating layer makes the shirt very lightweight. Now you can forget the big, bulky, heavy cotton shirts and limit the movement of the wearer.

Ulaar's biggest advantage is its versatility. The shirt was fitted with a pumping system, and a small box containing argon gas on the shirt. So you can adjust the insulation in the jacket easily to fit the weather. If you get out of Argon gas, you will have a thin jacket for autumn with the wind slightly cold. If you pump Argon gas, you will have a very warm cotton shirt but very light for the winter cold.

Another feature of Ulaar is water and wind resistance. The outer shell is like a windbreaker, which prevents it from wind and is impervious to water. Air-cooled insulation remains effective even when you soak in cold water. The inner liner is made of soft, elastic, carbon fiber, fast drying and anti-bacterial.

Klymit has introduced the prototype of this jacket in Europe during the autumn and winter outdoor exhibition in Germany. The shirt is expected to be available in the US by the end of this year, priced at $ 150-200.
