Lexus's air cushion skis
After launching the video introducing the skateboard with its very special air cushion, Lexus continues to keep quiet about this unique product. Until today, the new luxury car company officially introduced its skateboard named SLIDE .
Unlike conventional skis, SLIDE does not have wheels that use the principle of magnetic cushioning to hover in the air. This device uses superconductors at high temperatures, permanent magnets to create a surfing experience and liquid nitrogen will be used for cooling.
Thanks to this, this skateboard can glide on magnetic surfaces and eliminate friction. Lexus engineers studied and built this special skateboard for 18 months. They even built a magnet slide designed specifically for this type of skateboard.
Professional skater Ross McGouran was the first to test the SLIDE skate and his feeling was a very different experience because when sliding without friction made surfing smooth and much softer.
SLIDE can operate on a variety of surfaces, from stone, concrete, wood or steel, even on the surface of the water . In the normal state it will hover above the air about 7-10 cm above the ground, when someone stands up, the board will be about 3-5 cm from the ground.
However, because there is no contact with the ground, the operator's perception of balance is difficult. Even a professional athlete like Ross McGouran has fallen many times while surfing with this game.
Besides, the board needs to charge fuel to be able to operate, which is liquid nitrogen. And every liquid nitrogen filling can only work continuously for 10 minutes. Those are the limitations that Lexus engineers need to overcome.
Currently this skateboard is still being tested and perfected before being commercialized. However, it must be acknowledged that the idea of the SLIDE board is extremely interesting, making our dream of flying freely become a reality.
