Life on Earth is almost completely erased because volcanoes destroy the ozone layer

About 250 million years ago, before the Earth's eruption, the eruption of volcanic eruptions, almost completely eradicated life on the planet.

Known as the " Great Dying" , it is even more terrible than the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. The scientific name is the Permia-Triassic Extinction Event, which occurred about 250 million years ago, before the dinosaurs were born.

The volcanic eruption destroyed the ozone layer in about 1 million years.

Previously, scientists believed that the Permia-Triassic extinction event was due to a volcanic eruption, but obviously, it was not a normal eruption. Called "Siberia Flood Basalts" , this millions of years of eruption is estimated to have killed 96% of marine life, along with 70% of terrestrial vertebrates.

Scientists today believe that volcanic eruptions have caused the ozone layer to suffer very heavy damage .

Michael Broadley, scientist and author of the study, published in Nature Geoscience on Monday, said the sweeping scale of the extinction event was so terrible that scientists had to ask, what makes Siberian Flood Basalts more devastating than other similar volcanic eruptions?

"We came to the conclusion that there is a huge halogen tank in the Siberian lithosphere, due to the impact of the eruption, which has been released into the atmosphere in this explosion, destroying the ozone layer in a way. quickly and significantly contributed to the event of mass destruction shortly afterwards ".

Essentially, volcanic eruptions have released chlorine, bromine, and iodine into the atmosphere, destroying the ozone layer for about 1 million years, and the Earth needs 10 million years to recover.
