Malaysia announced the first case of H7N9 influenza virus infection

Ministry of Health Malaysia on February 12 announced that the country has appeared the first case of H7N9 flu as a Chinese tourist.

The patient is a 67-year-old female tourist from Guangdong province to travel in Sabah state.

Speaking at the press conference, the Malaysian Health Minister Subramaniam said the two test results for these visitors all showed a positive reaction to the H7N9 virus.

He assured people not to panic because there is no evidence that the H7N9 virus can spread from person to person.

Currently the patient is being treated at the hospital and is in stable condition.

20 people who came into contact with this patient were also quarantined for testing.

On the same day, Chinese authorities confirmed three new cases of H7N9 avian influenza virus infection in Zhejiang province, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 82.

All three cases were male, aged 84, 58 and 46. Among them, the oldest patient was in critical condition, the other two were in bad condition.

Since the beginning of 2014, China has confirmed more than 120 cases of human infection with H7N9, including at least 31 deaths.

Zhejiang Province is one of the worst affected areas.
