This is the conclusion made in the study by the Royal Botanic Gardens in collaboration with the Institute of Natural History of the country and the International Union for Nature Protection (IUCN), published on 29 / 9.
According to the study, endangered plants are at risk of extinction in mammals, higher than birds and only lower than amphibians, or corals.
Conifer trees are among the most endangered. Human farming and cultivation activities have lost the natural habitat of many plants, causing 81% of this threat.
Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens Stephen Hopper stressed that plants are the foundation for life on Earth because they provide clean air, water, food and fuel.
He said the study of the Royal Botanic Gardens will lay the foundation for future natural conservation efforts, especially in the context of member states participating in the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. The country will meet in Japan at the end of October to set specific targets by 2020 to prevent the risk of extinction for any species on Earth.
