Mechanism of enzyme action helps to control cancer

For the first time in the world, a group of Korean scientists have discovered the mechanism of enzyme activity that can inhibit the growth rate of cancer.

Professor Kim Sung-hoon of Seoul National University and his team observed cancer cells with DNA chains destroyed by ultraviolet rays.

In these treated cells, they found that an enzyme of the same origin called MRS (Methionyl-tRNA Synthetase) could not perform protein biosynthesis as it did in normal cells.

Previously, scientists have discovered a similarity between cancer patients. That is the process of protein biosynthesis and DNA mutation all increase at the same time, but they have not explained why.

Research by Korean scientists shows that when detecting the destroyed DNA sequence, MRS will perform its two functions to curb the growth of cancer cells. Thanks to this study, it is hoped to find a way to develop new anticancer drugs.
