The American Meteorite Association (AMS) received more than 270 reports of seeing fireballs rushing through the sky from northwest to southeast 8/7, the Daily Herald reported. Many people described the fireball as green, half of which said it broke into pieces before it disappeared.

Andrew Danan saw meteors while driving in Schaumburg, Illinois. Danan watched it for about 7 seconds."It's great that this is the first time I saw a meteorite," he said.

This meteorite may be a comet piece, AMS said. It's quite special because the angle to the atmosphere is very shallow, so that people can observe for a longer time, according to expert Bill Cooke at NASA's Meteorological Environment Agency.

He analyzed the video and other data and said that the fireball entered the Earth's atmosphere above Rippey, Iowa State, moving at more than 140,000 km / h. It caught fire at an altitude of about 74km in the sky of Burlington city. With this flying angle and velocity, no debris will fall to the ground, Cooke said.
