The discovery of this huge gas field, along with the development of related economic sectors, is expected to contribute 1% of annual GDP to Mexico. The new gas field will also increase Mexico's total gas reserves by 4 to 5 times at present, as the gas fields are concentrated mainly in the Burgos region in northwestern Mexico.
