AFP said light brown hairs were discovered in an underground warehouse of Sydney City Hall, Australia, along with a letter when people repaired and upgraded the building. No one knows the reason, time and how they are brought here.

Margaret Betteridge, who manages what was found in the town hall, said at first she was not sure that the hair belonged to the French emperor, but the accompanying letter confirmed it.

The letterwriter calls himself Ned Todd, a Scottish citizen. Todd told a woman who gave him hair. The woman's brother, Major William Crockat, was standing by Napoleon's bed when he died. The woman claimed that her brother had cut hair on Napoleon's body.

According to Betteridge, many historical records of Napoleon's hair were cut after his death and Major Crockat appeared in a picture depicting the scene of the French emperor's death.

The mystery is why and how Napoleon's hair appeared in Sydney - the city more than 13,000 km away from where he died. The famous emperor of France died on May 5, 1821 at the age of 51, while under exile on St Helela Island - a British colony south of the Atlantic Ocean.

Betteridge said that, apart from Napoleon's hair, many strange things were found in the underground storages when renovating and upgrading Sydney city hall, including several coffins.

Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was the general of the French revolution in 1789 and ruled the country as the first general of the French republic from 11/11/1799. He later reestablished the monarchy and crowned the French emperor from May 18, 1804. He is considered one of the greatest military leaders of all time. From 1804 to 1812, his army traveled throughout Europe - from Portugal in the west to Russia in the east.
