Dozens of mysterious kangaroos die in Australia

37 Wallaby kangaroos, animals that are similar to Kangaroo but smaller, have mysteriously died in northern Australia in recent times, causing everyone a headache to find solutions.

Dozens of Wallaby kangaroos are lying on the grass, their legs twisted together, the New York Times described. No one seemed to survive, until Shai Ager discovered something stirred.

It was a young one, just big enough to dance. He is trying to get into the bag of a dead mother.

The next morning, in the same field, a site near Cairns, Ms. Ager - a biologist - along with some animal rescue volunteers, found three more Wallaby kangaroos. They are still alive.

But to be exact, they are about to die.

"They foam at the edges. I sit there with them until they die," the New York Times quoted Ms Ager as saying.

Who or what killed the animals is still an unanswered question, but the number of Wallaby kangaroos that have died in the area has risen to 37. Rescuers begin to argue that the cause could come from some bad intent. Local authorities are investigating and a report of possible poisoning will be released in the coming days.

At the same time, rescuers like Shai Ager are conducting their own investigations, and all signs point to the animal at the top of the food chain.

In January, in the same area, 17 Wallaby kangaroos were killed within 2 days, police said at least 5 were shot by sniper rifles.

Some of the kangaroos this time have opaque white eyes, a sign that they may be poisoned.

Many people consider these Wallabys to be pests like rats, so they often repel them. The football field, where the bodies of unfortunate kangaroos were discovered, are surrounded by a one-way fence, allowing the animals to escape if they slip inside.

Last week, the fence was destroyed and all the kangaroos came to sunbathe. So it is assumed that someone took the initiative to destroy the fence and poisoned the animals.

Ager said authorities were also investigating in the direction of a mysterious plague that had killed the kangaroos.
