Australia wants to kill the kangaroos

The city of Canberra yesterday said it plans to shoot more than 3,000 suburban kangaroos, because they are multiplying very fast, eating all the grass - which is the habitat of many other animals.

Currently on the outskirts of the capital, the density of kangaroo reaches 1,100 heads / square kilometer - a record level in this region so far. The city government will make the final decision on whether to kill the kangaroos this week. According to the plan, by the end of July, 3,200 animals, species that can grow as big as humans, will be shot down.

Each year millions of kangaroos are destroyed in rural Australia, but plans to handle 3,000 fish around Canberra are strongly opposed.

Some politicians criticize that this decision will make the government's image "brutal". Animal rights defenders claim that the government's argument - fearing that if not kangaroo is killed, they will also starve - wrong.

Australia's Defense Department commented that those kangaroos are not short of food, but are undermining the habitat of many organisms living in grasslands and threatening biodiversity.

Scientists are currently trying to test the oral contraceptive pills for kangaroos.
