NASA canceled the astronomical observation project with X-ray rays
The US Aerospace Agency (NASA) on June 7 said that due to the high cost, NASA decided to cancel a project to study celestial bodies through X-ray observation.
According to the original plan, this project will be launched as early as 2014 and completed the task within 2 years, using 3 astronomical telescopes to collect X-ray rays emitted from the celestial bodies. High density items such as black holes or constellations Neuton .
Paul Hertz, director of NASA's astrophysics department, said that if the launch price is not included, it is estimated that the total investment in this project is only about 105 million USD, but according to the evaluation, it has just been completed. This shows that the cost for this project will have to increase by about 20-30%. So although NASA has completed the design and preparation of hardware assembly, NASA still decided to cancel this project.
After the project was canceled, NASA had to pay 13 million compensation, including payment to hardware manufacturers such as Orbital Sciences Corporation.
