Colonel Melroy's Colonel will join five other crews on board the ISS by the space shuttle Atlantis in late 2007 to transfer to a device that will connect Japanese and European science laboratories.
Other crews include George Zamka, Scott Parazynski, Doug Wheelock, Mike Foreman and Paolo Nespoli.
This is Melroy's third space flight, but it will be the first trip as a commander. Melroy, 44, a master of planetary and planetary science, flew to space in 2000 and 2002.
In the world, Eileen Collins was the first female astronaut to fly into space in 1995 . She later became the world's first Columbia spacecraft commander in 1999. Collins retired in May 2006.
It is known that NASA is also preparing to launch the 2nd Space Shuttle spacecraft on July 1, despite concerns about the ship's safety after previous launches, especially explosions. Columbia ship in 2003.
In February 2003, the Columbia shuttle spacecraft exploded shortly after it was launched, killing all seven American astronauts. This is a disaster for America's space exploration industry. NASA then had to stop all spacecraft launches to check safety requirements.
