NASA spacecraft almost crashed into Mars's Moon
The spacecraft operating on the Mars orbit of the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) nearly collided with Phobos, one of Mars's two moons.
Phobos, one of Mars's two moons.
According to Sputnik, it was fortunate that NASA experts on Earth promptly increased the speed of the MAVEN spacecraft to change its trajectory and avoid the collision with Phobos .
The MAVEN was launched to explore the atmosphere and evaporation process in Mars since 2014. If a collision with Phobos occurs, this $ 671 million research project will have to be put to an end.
NASA scientists have fired rocket engines to help the MAVEN speed up and leave its orbit. If they don't act, this spaceship and Phobos will crash into each other on March 6.
Phobos is Mars's larger moon, with a radius of about 10km. Recent observations suggest that the ability of Phobos to be made up of many different cosmic rocks, under a thin crust.
It is estimated that 50 million years from now, Phobos will crumble or crash into Mars. So far, no human ship can land at Phobos. Two Soviet projects implemented in the late 1980s all failed.
