New method of treating brain tumors does not need to open the skull

The research of international scientists published in the journal Taiwan's technology news has developed a technique to treat brain tumors more effectively than the current treatment techniques in the world.

The biological system is sophisticated to protect the brain and maintain brain activity but also makes it very difficult for brain tumor surgeons.

New technique uses three directions of tumor attack simultaneously. One is the ultrasonic beam to break the natural biological protection barrier to protect the brain, especially opening the doors to protect the brain against the attack of poisons. Two, tiny particles carry anticancer drugs. Dad is the magnetic field to guide these particles to attack tumors.

The researchers tested new techniques in mice with genes that target brain tumors. Treating traditional brain tumors often requires opening the skull to cut these tumors. Brain tumors cannot be removed at the root, so some time after surgery, they often grow back.

However, using new techniques, researchers do not need to open the skull but pump air bubbles along the blood vessels towards the brain. Then use sound waves so that these air bubbles break down the bio-protective barriers of the brain, opening the door to microscopic particles that carry the brain-killing cancer cells. Magnetic forces will guide these particles to attack tumors.

The new technique shows that it is 15 times more likely to concentrate anticancer drugs on tumors than traditional techniques, thus eliminating the tumor permanently.

Mice with new brain tumors treated according to the new technique can increase the life expectancy by 66% compared to untreated mice. The researchers tracked the entire process through a magnetic resonance scanner.

The researchers confirmed that the new tumor treatment technique is ready to be used to treat brain tumors in humans after the adjustment of technology for another 4-5 years.
