New research on cancer treatment won the Nobel Prize in Medicine 2018
Scientist James P.Allison and Tasuku Honjo found a treatment for cancer by inhibiting the negative regulation of antibodies.
The vote counting process to select the 2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine was completed and announced by the Nobel Prize Medical Committee of the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) at 16:30 pm this afternoon (Hanoi time).
Professor James P. Allison (70 years old, American) studied a protein that acts as an immunosuppressant . He realized the potential for releasing immune cells could stimulate the ability to attack tumors. Accordingly, he developed this idea into a new approach to treating patients.

Prof. Tasuku Honjo (76 years old, Japanese) also discovered an immune cell protein that acts as an inhibitor but has another mechanism of action . His detection-based treatments are very effective against cancer.
New method to test in the treatment of small cell lung cancer. Two months after introduction into immune cells, pseudo-progression appears. After 4 months, the tumor size was reduced.
The Nobel committee evaluated that the work of two scientists found a way to stimulate the immune system to fight cancer cells, opening up a new principle for treating this disease. Research brings hope to the community when cancer is killing millions of lives every year.
James P. Allison is an immunology professor at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. He had many years of research into the mechanism of T cell receptor development and activation. He was also the first scientist to find a way to isolate complex protein sequences of T-cell receptor antigens.
Immunologist Tasuku Honjo, Kyoto University, is known for his work on protein PD-1 in cancer therapy. He is also the discoverer of an AID enzyme that plays an essential role in the process of recombinant antibody gene and super mutant.
According to the Nobel Prize, the Nobel Prize for Physics, Chemistry, Peace and Economics will be announced on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th October. Last year's Nobel Prize for Medicine belonged to three scientists, Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young, with discoveries of the gene that controls the circadian rhythm daily.
