New species appear in Vietnam

A new plant has just been discovered in a national park in Lam Dong province.

Dr. Vu Quang Nam, a researcher of Forestry University, found the species of Da Hop Bidoup (Magnolia bidoupensis QN Vu) on Hon Giao mountain belonging to Bidoup-Nui Ba national park, Lam Dong province. This is where the typical dwarf forest.

Bidoup is a species with a small woody trunk with a trunk diameter of 10 to 18cm. Their leaves are hard, thick and have a prison tip. The leaf blade has a large oval shape and a broad, rounded leaf base.

Flowers of Bidoup Complex are small, white and fragrant. The two flowers have a mace and ovule with a three-pointed form. They grow naturally in broad-leaved, evergreen forest at an altitude of 1,650 to 1,910m. Bidoup mix grows mixed with some other tree species.

Dr. Vu Quang Nam's discovery was published in Annales Botanici Fennici specialized scientific journal in Finland in December 2011.
