Discover a new plant species, Moc Huong

A group of researchers from the Vietnam Museum of Nature, Southern Institute of Ecology under the VAST and the Institute of Plants, Dresden University, Germany have discovered and described a new plant species belonging to Aristolochiaceae in Southern Vietnam. The new plant species has the scientific name of the Southern Chamber, Aristolochia cochinchinensis Do.

Discovered a new plant species in Vietnam

In the world, the genus Aristolochia L. (Aristolochiaceae) consists of about 500 species distributed mainly in tropical and subtropical regions, one of the favorite food of larvae of the Phoenix Butterfly family (Papilionidae, Lepidoptera). Recent studies have noted that this genus is in three subdivisions: Aristolochia, Pararistolochia, Siphisia and in Vietnam, this genus is known for about 25 species of Aristolochia and Siphisia .

Aristolochia cochinchinensis Aristolochia cochinchinensis Because of its similar morphological characteristics to the Aristolochia longeracemosa species, A. poomae, A. pothieri and A. yalaensis, however, the new species is distinguished from the aforementioned species by the special morphological features : leaf stalks 6–8 cm long, with large cylindrical scars at the base of stalks, oblong inflorescences, 2–4 xims per burner, each cluster of flowers containing 5–9 flowers; flower wrapping with narrow oblong lips, 1.2–1.5 cm long, 0.2 cm wide, wrenches; Flowers without rolling between pots and flower sacks.
