New volcano works on Mercury

When analyzing data from NASA's Messenger probe (US Aerospace Agency), scientists said they have just identified the location of some recently active volcanoes on Mercury.

This shows that Mercury is not a "dead" planet as long as the scientific community has previously identified. It also helps researchers get more information about the formation and development of other planets in the Solar System.

In Science, the researchers said they discovered volcanic phenomena on Mercury at the first flight of Messenger. By the third flight, they had enough evidence to confirm this.

Specifically, the ship discovered a basin formed by a recent collision with many signs that volcanic activity occurred after the basin formed.

Dr Louise Prockter - working at Maryland's Johns Hopkins Physics Laboratory, said the team leader is still looking for a way to "measure" this volcanic activity, but she claims it is a mountain The " youngest fire ever found on Mercury".

Also in Science, a NASA research team said they found evidence that there were many strong magnetic storms on Mercury. This phenomenon also occurs in other planets, including Earth.

It is known that Messenger will fly around Mercury - the planet closest to the Sun - one more before it ends in 2011.
