New weapon to prevent deforestation

In the face of deforestation seriously affecting the reproductive system and climate change, scientists have invented a new "weapon" against advanced deforestation.

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Organization (INPE) and the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) are planning to launch a satellite named Global Earth Ecosystem Observatory (GTEO), to monitor the damage. forests and affect ecosystems around the Amazon rainforest and other ecosystems around the Earth.

GTEO can monitor the development of global vegetation through an infrared camera, which splits data with high accuracy. Using this technology will cost up to $ 250 million, but will help scientists predict the impact of carbon sequences and ecosystems in different climatic conditions.

The GTEO will be launched in 2016 and provide clear information about the type of plants that are luminescent on the ground.

The head of the Brazilian Space Agency, Mr. Gilberto Camara, said the new device would accelerate the restoration of ecosystems that were devastated by humans.

'We want to do more to protect the ecosystem while many trees or shrubs are devastated by humans, and we want more detailed evidence of tree and carpet growth. plant, ' said Gilberto Camara.

The coordinator of Greenpeace, Marcio Astrini, said Brazil has the most advanced deforestation tracking system in the world. However, forest fires, deforestation and farming practices of farmers are still the main causes of increased deforestation.

To reduce deforestation, according to Camara, the launched GTEO will provide more clear information for scientists to monitor forest vegetation. 'This is considered a new' weapon 'to effectively prevent deforestation, in addition to two previous studies conducted by the University of Sao Paulo and the National University of Brasilia, which has shown deforestation rates in Brazil will increase to 40% by 2020 , 'Camara revealed.
