Panda giving birth at the American zoo

An individual panda on August 23 was born at the zoo in America, in a rare successful birth after several false pregnancies.

The Twitter account of the American National Zoo in Washington posted the announcement "We have a baby bear" right after Mei Xiang's mother gave birth at 17:30 on August 23 (local time). Mother bears began to be monitored continuously from August 7 through surveillance cameras.

Zoo is continuing to follow Mei Xiang because large pandas have very high twins. " Immediately, Mei Xiang picked him up and took care of him," they said. "Pink bear is very small, but we can hear its cry."

"I glued my eyes to the camera screen and was happy to hear the cry of the baby bear , " said National Zoo director Dennis Kelly. "Our large panda maintenance and development team worked tirelessly to analyze the hormones and habits of this species since March 2013. The results of the research and cooperation with scientists studying in the world has brought this big newborn panda ".

Veterinarians often have difficulty determining whether a large panda is pregnant because this species has a false pregnancy behavior. The only way to accurately identify is using ultrasound. Mei Xiang was stopped scanning from August 5.

In September 2012, Mei Xiang gave birth to a panda, but it died six days later because of liver damage.

The national zoo decided to give Mei Xiang 2 times artificial insemination in March 2013, after the Tian Tian male bear was not as expected.
