New Zealand celebrates the birth of a red panda

New Zealand's Auckland Zoo has announced that it will celebrate the birth of a red panda here. This activity is part of an international program to breed highly endangered animals.

The red panda was born just last Christmas, the first red panda born in Auckland Zoo in the past 10 years.

This is the first child of the red panda named Bo, whose birth weight is only 105 grams but has increased to 240 grams so far. The 3-year-old "Mother Bo" was taken to Auckland Zoo in mid-2012, while the red-eyed panda is Sagar, 12 years old, brought to this park in 2010.

According to Auckland Zoo's announcement, the birth of the baby panda was a miracle because "Bo mother" only met "Sagar father" last August, and the red panda had only two reproductive periods. every year, while a male panda can only mate with females for one to two days. Bo is a wonderful "mother" , lying in the nest almost all day to breastfeed diligently.

It will take another 8-10 weeks for the new panda to go out for visitors to see, because the red panda grows slowly and depends on the care of the mother bear for at least three months. Although the end of February is the right time to determine the sex of the baby panda, the veterinarians claim this is a " red panda " .

Red pandas are listed on the list of endangered animals by the International Union for Conservation of Nature due to deforestation, shifting cultivation and illegal hunting.

According to the High Endangered Species Breeding Program, in 2010, Auckland Zoo sent the red pandas Khosuva to India's Darjeeling Zoo to "pair" with a breeding panda. The couple's children will be released to the forest in Nepal. In return, the Sagar Bear Zoo moves to the Auckland Zoo to carry out the task of maintaining the breed.

In addition to the Bo, Sagar and newborn bear family, Auckland Zoo also has two other red pandas, the sisters Maya, 16, and Amber, 12.
