Help the panda mate by
Because a female panda does not mate, experts at a Chinese research center have shown the animal the sight of two other pandas lovingly to awaken its sexual desire.
The pandas Ke Lin and the male panda Yong Yong live in Chengdu Panda Research and Breeding Center, Sichuan Province, China. In the past days, the center's veterinarians realized that Ke Lin seemed to be "not" inspired by sex.
Sexual excitement of female pandas often disappears in captivity.
'Whenever Yong Yong tries to mate with Ke Lin, the female panda pushes it away. We are concerned because Ke Lin's three-day ovulation is about to run out , 'the center's spokesman said.
So the scientists of the center decided to show the two animals the scene of the love between two wild pandas in a video to imitate Ke Lin and Yong Yong.
"Ke Lin was interested in watching the movie. After that it did not resist Yong Yong anymore and they were successfully mating , " the spokesman continued.
The reproductive rate of pandas is very low because the female structure is only able to conceive for exactly three days each year and they are very picky for their partners. In addition, their sexual needs often disappear in captivity. So very few zoo outside China breed pandas successfully.
Because bamboo forests - the habitat of pandas - are disappearing in China because of deforestation, most pandas are now born in captivity.
