Raccoons can become human saviors
Panda body produces a natural antibiotic capable of destroying the most dangerous viruses for humanity.
Antibiotics in panda blood can kill the most frightening viruses.
Dr. Xiuwen Yan, a biologist of Nanjing Agricultural University in China, discovered the "miraculous antibiotic" in the blood of pandas after analyzing their DNA. He called it cathelicidin-AM , Telegraph reported.
"Cathelicidin-AM can kill many types of bacteria and fungi, including those resistant to antibiotics that humans make , " Yan said.
Yan and colleagues believe the panda's immune system has released antibiotics to prevent infection in the wild. According to them, cathelicidin-AM can help scientists find new therapies to prevent antibiotics "greasy" of viruses.
About 1,600 pandas live in the wild. Conservationists fear the number of pandas will decrease as the area of bamboo forests in China and Southeast Asia is declining. Raccoon bears little and sparse in the wild environment. They also rarely mate and breed in captivity. Because the conservation world has not found effective measures to increase the number of pandas.
Fortunately, scientists won't have to take antibiotics from the panda body, because they can synthesize it in the lab by decoding the genes that make up Cathelicidin-AM.
