People will permanently erase the dreaded disease on a global scale

People today can cure many diseases. But to completely eliminate an illness worldwide, there are only 2 cases.

In 1980, World Health Organization WHO confirmed that one of the most feared diseases in history - smallpox (official smallpox) was officially erased. It is also the first time that humans can completely eliminate a disease on a global scale.

And now, humanity can repeat this again. And this time, the "victim" is filariasis - or guinea worm (Guinea worm - Dracunculiasis).

Worms are just about to disappear completely.

For those who do not know yet, worms only don't receive the necessary human attention, simply because there are rarely people dying because of it. However, this is a very terrible disease, can cause depression, permanent damage to human health.

Worms live only in Asia and Africa, whose bodies are 80cm - 1m long when mature. Worm larvae invade the human body when drinking contaminated water, then develop within 1 year before . taking action.

When the muscles are ripe, worms only start to penetrate the muscles - usually in the legs or feet before officially emerging, creating a blister on the host's skin. At this time, the sick person will feel extremely painful, the skin burns, whenever the worms appear.

To minimize pain, patients tend to soak their feet in the water, and this inadvertently causes worm larvae to spread into the water, waiting for the next victim.

Worm disease was first discovered in the 80s of the last century, during a visit to Ghana by former US President Jimmy Carter. He shares the following: "I saw a woman hugging her baby . but then realized it was not a child, but her chest. It swelled to more than 30cm, above her head was exposed. Guinea worm ".

It was an unforgettable sight for Carter, making him decide to come up with a task for the Carter Center, a non-profit center set up by Carter: seeking to erase the filariasis.

In total there are only more than 100 cases of worms.

In 1986, there were more than 3.5 million cases of filariasis, which could be considered a disease in more than 24,000 villages in 21 Asian and African countries. However, thanks to the relentless efforts of people, there are now only 126 cases of worms worldwide.

Not to mention, Guinea worms are now only endemic in exactly 30 villages in 4 countries in Africa. If this trend continues, worms will only turn into the first parasitic disease that is wiped out, and the first disease to disappear without the need for a vaccine or medication.

Just provide farmers with water purification facilities that are enough to remove worms only.

Some experts from the Carter Center said that Guinea worms may be partially erased in the way they spread: only one path is available, there is no alternative. Therefore, just providing the villages infected with worms is more than enough to make the worm become a thing of the past.

Currently, Carter Center is holding an exhibition at the National Museum of American History, entitled: "Countdown: the day to destroy a disease". And when that day really comes, it will be an extremely memorable milestone in the history of world medicine.
