Pesticides increase the risk of brain cancer

Previous studies have demonstrated that farmers who use a lot of pesticides are at a higher risk of developing Parkinson's disease. French researchers at the University of Bordeaux have confirmed that these drugs may also double the risk of brain cancer.

Picture 1 of Pesticides increase the risk of brain cancer Dr. Isabelle Baldi and colleagues compared pesticide use in 221 adults with brain cancer and 442 people in the same age but did not get it.

As a result, people who have been exposed to pesticides, such as farmers or agricultural workers, including those who use pesticides to take care of plants in their homes, have a 200% increased risk of brain cancer. In contrast, people who are not exposed to these drugs have a 29% reduced risk of brain cancer.

The researchers noted that the risk of glioma is three times higher in people exposed to pesticides. This type of tumor is more common in men than women, possibly because farmers and agricultural workers are often men.
