Plant roof

A living roof with an area of 1 hectare spread over seven hills is the bold idea of Italian architect Renzo Piano for the new building of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco (USA). ).

On the unique roof of the Golden Gate Park will plant more than 1.7 million trees of nine typical species in California, to make the institute the largest natural museum in the world. This $ 300 million project is expected to open in October 2008.

It is noteworthy that this building is constructed of recycled materials, using energy mainly from the sun. This living facility will not only help reduce 30-35% of the energy required for the building, but also create a new environment for wild animals such as birds, bees and endangered species such as Hairstreak and San Bruno butterflies.

Perhaps convinced of the creative idea and very protective nature of the project, Bernard Osher Foundation donated $ 20 million to California Academy to complete the project.
