Producing biofuel from whey
German dairy group Theo Muller said that from now until the end of the year, bioethanol biofuel will be produced from milk residues and it will be the first in the world.
Muller has invested 20 million euros to develop a method to allow the production of whey ethanol (also called lactoserum) formed when cheese is produced.
This free and almost free waste material can become a heavy competitor compared to other plant products such as barley or beetroot, which require large areas of cultivation. General Director According to Muller, he expects to produce 10 million liters of bioethanol from 'milk' from now on a factory built in Leppersdorf near Dresden.
This announcement was made while energy ministers in Europe agreed with each other in February 2007 to set a target of mixing 10% of biofuels in fuel consumption vehicles. in European Union countries from now to 2020.
