Read mail, watch news on contact lenses
Professor Babak Parviz and colleagues at the University of Washington are working to develop a contact lens that can connect to the internet, receive and display information on a virtual screen in front of the user.
When participating in outdoor activities, the glasses can also zoom in on distant landscapes.
The use of this product is similar to the normal contact lenses. Researchers emphasize the amount of information that appears very small and does not obscure the view.
Professor Babak Parviz is a specialist in designing nanoscale parts, thousands of times thinner than human hair.
In order to manufacture this special product, he implanted a single LED, an antenna that received information through a wireless connection and an electronic circuit into the contact lens. When tested with rabbits, these glasses do not cause any health problems.
The professor thinks that one day we might know all the necessary information through contact lenses.
He is also working on the idea of incorporating a sensor into the glass for blood sugar and other important medical information.
'The surface of the eye is covered by live cells that the body must maintain, so they are directly related to the blood in the body. "
