Russia invents new technology against metal corrosion

Russian scientists have found a unique method to protect metal from corrosion. They have made a kind of paint based on solvent liquid glass transition . It is a silicate or potassium silicate coating that, when dried, becomes glassy. In addition, there is a filler that is zinc powder, which plays an important role in protecting the metal from corrosion. The idea of applying liquid glass is not new and has been used to protect stainless steel, but that technology has many inadequacies. General director of the company "InnTehPro" Alexander Mikhailov said:

"All types of paints on the market now use organic solvents and this is not applicable in areas involving fire, oil, or sea water." put zinc on metal without using organic solvents ... It is liquid glass dissolved in water ".

The new glass paint over conventional materials has the advantage of being non-toxic. It does not accumulate static electricity, does not emit light and can be used in the fuel industry. Turns out, its production technology is also quite simple. The problem here is the precise dosage of the ingredients and the quality of the zinc powder.

After painting, the protective metal surface is covered with a thin film composed of hard glass particles interwoven with zinc particles. The advantage of this technology is that even if the protective layer is damaged, the rust can not erode the metal. Thanks to the electrochemical reaction between iron and zinc, zinc adsorbs the oxygen molecules and inhibits the oxidation of iron. It is also important that the protective layer is very durable. As stated, new coating thicknesses of 100 to 200 microns can be corrosion-resistant for at least 20 years, up to 50 years.

Russia's environmentally friendly anti-corrosive coatings have been developed by leading paint manufacturers such as the Dutch.
