The prototype Mil Mi-38-OP helicopter produced by the Mil Moscow helicopter factory is being tested. Experts in the helicopter design group confirmed its operational capability as "unique ", with a range of 800 km, carrying 36 people and 5 tons of cargo , the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

"The majority of Russian helicopters work only 40 to 45 years, Mil Mi-38-OP will serve many times longer because their bodies are made of anti-corrosion alloys ," said Alexander Samusenko, head of the aircraft design department of the Mil Moscow factory, confirmed.

Mil Mi-38-OP's cockpit is equipped with state-of-the-art computer systems. The system constantly reports problems that may occur in each helicopter. With its large size and extreme maneuverability, Mil Mi-38-OP can become a "flying hospital" when fighting or participating in disaster relief.

The testing process will last for several months, even several years. In the next test, Mil Mi-38-OP will land on Everest, the highest mountain in the planet. As planned, it will be mass-produced and put into use in 2014.
