Russia proposed using Satan missiles to destroy meteors

Russia can use Satan SS-18 heavy intercontinental ballistic missiles to destroy small meteorites that threaten Earth. The idea came four months after the asteroid explosion in the Ural region injured 1,200 people.

The boosters were built on the basis of intercontinental ballistic missiles such as Voyevoda (Russian name for Satan rocket), which uses standard liquid fuel, hydrazine-based, suitable for destruction. Small cosmic objects were suddenly discovered, 'said Sabit Saitgarayev, a senior researcher at the Rocket Design Center in Miass City, Chelyabinsk region.

Mr. Sabit, said: 'Satan missiles can return to conditions ready for launch for 10 years or more, after being refitted'.

The cryogenic fuel, used in Russian heavy space missiles such as Soyuz and Angara, cannot be stored in the cavity and must be supplied directly before launch. In addition, it takes several days to prepare these missiles before launching, making them unsuitable for the task of destroying small meteorites - which can be detected only a few hours before hitting the Earth.

Meanwhile, Satan missiles can destroy small meteorites with a diameter of up to 100 meters threatening the Earth if it is equipped with a third floor. If equipped with a push, this missile can destroy the meteorite for 5 hours before a collision with the Earth.

Satan missiles can 'take off' in 10-20 minutes after the launch order. In addition to the 2 hours required for the missile to hit the target, it takes 2 more hours to determine the meteor's path and 1 hour to announce the launch of the missile with the leaders of other countries.

The proposal came about four months after a meteorite entered the Earth's atmosphere and plunged into the Ural region of Russia on February 15, causing an explosion that blew away the glass doors of tens of thousands of buildings. the house around Chelyabinsk city, injured 1,200 people in the area, of which 52 had to be hospitalized.
