Russia proposes a water finder on Mars

Russian scientists have presented the idea of ​​equipping Mars with water extraction tools for the new self-propelled device of the US Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), in search of groundwater that can support the live on the surface of the red planet.

The device invented by the Russian Space Research Institute is one of 58 proposals sent to NASA in February, to provide an idea for Mars-based autonomous equipment to prepare for the mission in 2020.

'On the surface, everything is the same, just the layers of dust and stones, but our device can observe the mineral composition on the ground,' says RIA-Novosti Igor Mitrofanov of the Academy of Sciences. Russia.

The device is proposed based on water finders created by the institute for a series of NASA cruise ships.

These include the High Energy Neutron Particle Detector on the Mars Odyssey, which helped to find underground freezing water on the red planet in 2002.

Meanwhile, the new device will detect gamma radiation that occurs when cosmic rays hit the surface of Mars, allowing analysis of the structural composition of minerals in the planet's heart.

NASA is expected to announce its selection results in March.
