The ship named Severodvinsk was built at Sevmash workshop in northern Russia from 1993 and launched in June 2010 after much delay due to financial problems.

Severodvinsk is expected to serve the Russian Navy later this year.

The Graney nuclear submarines are designed to launch a range of 5,000km long-range cruise missiles, carrying conventional or nuclear warheads.

Their targets were submarines, warships and land targets.

The ship was equipped with 24 cruise missiles, 8 torpedo launchers, and other torpedoes and ship-breaking missiles.

The second Graney, Kazan, is being built at Sevmash, while the third ship promises to be kicked off this year.

The Russian Navy plans to build 10 Graney multi-purpose nuclear submarines by 2020.
