The world's first fusion pin, the first commercial nuclear power plant, the first reactors for submarines and icebreakers are the achievements of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" . In the near future, the hospital will be 70 years old.

Andrei Gagarin, director of scientific development of the institute, said: 'In 70 years of operation, the Institute has done a lot of work. First of all, the decision to build Soviet nuclear weapons, almost simultaneously with the work on nuclear energy and fusion energy. The solution to the energy problem is one of the Institute's major achievements. In addition, the Institute has many achievements in basic nuclear physics ".

The scientific genius and organizational talent of academician Igor Kurchatov played a huge role in establishing the institute.

'Igor Kurchatov is a very unique person. Our country is very fortunate to find him, to take on this role. He possesses the qualities of a great scientist and a talented organizer. Therefore, he could organize a science center to work excellently in the period of war-torn country. In harsh war conditions, the institute has resolved the task of establishing a nuclear shield. He created a new science of nuclear energy, " continued Gagarin.

The achievements in nuclear power have long been the "business card" of the Kurchatov Institute. According to Oleg Dalkarov, head of the Nuclear Physics Department of the Institute of Physics, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Kurchatov Institute occupies a leading position in international energy research.

'These are studies like reactor construction and fusion energy. In these areas, the Institute has played a very important role. The main work has been done here , " Dalkarov said.

Dalkarov says that the first reactor was put into operation in Obninsk, but it was designed in Moscow, at the Kurchatov Institute. If talking about fusion energy, this work is associated with the names of scientists. Some of them are still working at the hospital. Now Kurchatov Institute actively participates in the manufacture of international ITER reactor. Nuclear reactors were built in France, but the basic design ideas were proposed at the institute.

ITER project is called "artificial sun prototype" . Many countries participate in the project, including India, China, Korea and Japan. This is not the only major international project of the Kurchatov Institute. The team of experts at the institute participates almost all major international projects in the field of physics, such as the Large Hadron Collider large particle accelerator at the European Nuclear Research Organization in Switzerland.
