Saving water for cotton plants
Cultivation method to save water for cotton plants is being successfully tested by Nha Ho Cotton Research Institute, Ninh Thuan province, which is effective for cotton growers in dry areas.
(Photo: VTV) At the experimental garden of the Nha Ho Cotton Research and Development Institute, Ninh Thuan province, the irrigation water does not overflow like before, but is dripped by a pipeline system arranged along the cotton base. . With this method, the daily irrigation water is reduced by more than 2/3 compared to the previous one, but still ensures the growth of the plant.
To ensure productivity, on average, each hectare of cotton needs about 7,000-8,000m3 of water, while if drip irrigation is applied, the amount of water drops to only about 2,000 - 3,000m3, the production cost is thus reduce about 400 thousand dong.
Not only is it successful in cotton farming, drip irrigation systems are also effective in cultivating crops of high economic value in arid regions.
According to Master Duong Xuan Dieu, Research and Development Institute of cotton, with a cost of about 30 million VND for 1 ha, the drip irrigation system, although relatively high investment, has the advantage of a long time of use, about 7-10 years ".
After successful field trials, the Cotton Research and Development Institute will transfer this cultivation method to farmers in Phu Yen and Binh Thuan provinces, where there are more than 5,000 hectares of cotton grown in the dry season.
