Science says: We absolutely can create diamonds with just ... microwave ovens

These artificial diamonds were made in about 10 weeks, and it was so real that many experts couldn't distinguish them.

Owning a diamond (even an artificial diamond) is a wish for many people, but have you ever thought that you could create a diamond?

Science says, you absolutely can do that - create an artificial diamond thanks to a familiar object . microwave oven.

This artificial diamond has physical properties and chemical composition like real diamonds.

Unlike cheap diamonds made from zirconia, these artificial diamonds have physical properties and chemical composition like real diamonds.

They are made of a carbon particle placed in a microwave with methane or another carbon-containing gas.

Extremely high temperatures in the chamber will create a spherical plasma light. Under these conditions, carbon particles will become diamonds.

The process of creating diamonds in this way can last 10 weeks. Artificial diamonds created in this way are so perfect that only machines can distinguish it as artificial diamonds.

So far, artificial diamonds account for a small part of the overall global diamond market worth up to 80 billion US dollars.

A Bloomberg report revealed, in 2014, the production of artificial diamonds produced in the laboratory reached 360,000 carats.

Meanwhile, the output of natural stone exploited from nature in 2013 reached 146 million carats. Production of artificial diamonds could increase to 2 million carats in 2018 and 20 million carats in 2026.

The company specializing in gem mining De Beers said, their research indicates - consumers do not equate artificial gemstones with natural gemstones.

Moreover, according to them, artificial gems can only compete with pure jewelry.

Using an artificial diamond is an environmentally friendly option.

It is known that an artificial diamond of 1 carat is sold for USD 6,000 (equivalent to VND 134 million), the price for a natural diamond of the same size is USD 10,000 (VND 224 million).

Therefore, Vishal Mehta - CEO of IIA (Singapore) said: "We are creating a new industry."

However, Mr. Mehta did not disclose the cost of producing a diamond in the laboratory. However, the choice of using an artificial diamond is an environmentally friendly option.
