Set of three galaxies in the dawn of the universe

Astronomers used the telescope in Chile to combine Hubble's power in orbit to observe the ancient trio of galaxies at the time of the new universe.

This group of galaxies is nearly 13 billion light-years from Earth, nestled inside a giant mass of ancient gas. When it was first discovered in 2009, the galaxies appear superficially like a unified mass, with nearly 10 times the size of a standard galaxy at that age.
