Sitting under a tree of scientific research

In recent years, in the science and technology innovation contests in the provinces, the number of farmers with practical applications appears more and more.

No appointment, two farmers in Cho Lach district, Ben Tre province and won a high award for scientific creativity all started with their own pressing .

Anti-leaning for durian fruit

Precisely because of the frustration of the durian, Mr. Loi studied and studied on the durian roots of the garden. Observing the reality, Mr. Loi noticed that the years with a long sunny season would make durian to eat very well, and the number of fruit left to be full was less.

So in the rainy season of the following year, Mr. Loi tried to find a way to create a dry environment for durian roots by covering a tree with plastic sheets. He said: 'In the beginning I only dared to experiment with only one tree. Luckily, the tree was covered with the root for good fruit and almost no fruit left.

After that, the farmer, who just finished grade 5, began replicating the original cover to create a fresh water environment for the tree in the rainy season. During the past few years of observing and working, he has summarized the techniques of root cover. This method not only applies effectively to durian monthong (Thailand) in his garden but can also be used for most other durian varieties (except durian rice), overcome nearly 90 % of the phenomenon is left in the rainy season.

At the first contest of science and technology creativity in Ben Tre province in 2005, the topic 'Remedies for the phenomenon of durian durian' of Mr. Loi won the second prize and is one of 35 scientific and creative solutions. Excellent arts have been successfully tested and applied effectively in production practices.

Usually grapefruit shows the fruit in the branch of a large branch, while the branch of the spider (small branch) is very seldom flowering, so pomelo growers or pruning the spider branches to make the tree more airy.

After many days of observation, farmer Le Van Hoa (Hai Hoa) in Tan Phu hamlet, Son Dinh commune, Cho Lach district discovered spider branch not only has the function of regulating humidity for plants but also can produce left.

When the pomelo plant is two years old, instead of trimming the small branches for open trees, he chooses the branches with dark green leaves and takes special care about ten days to plant the new shoots, then pruning 100 % leaves in selected spider branches. After 20-25 days, young shoots and flower buds will develop in pruned branches. When the fruit reaches a diameter of 4-5cm, the grower will trim and keep only two fruits to ensure the nutrition and strength of the branches.

Mr. Hai Hoa said: normally a year of green grapefruit left twice. But from the day he found this technique, his garden was left all year round. The fruit leaves from the spider branch weighing 1.7-2kg, twice as big as the fruit that grows from the branch but still retains the crisp and sweet taste. Productivity is also doubled. On average, every pomelo green skin (1,000m 2 ), Mr. Hai Hoa earns 25-30 million VND from selling pomelos.

The research work for green skin pomelo flowers in his body won the first prize in the "Creative Farmers' Contest in 2005 organized by the Vietnam Farmer Association.
