Although not famous for its leadership or wealth, the creation of a new symbol on the Calico pirate flag is a great influence for that era.

Before Calico's time, the Jolly Roger flag often had the symbol of a human skeleton accompanied by a weapon or something. Such as Blackbeard 's "Black Beard" flag is a one-handed skeleton with an hourglass, a hand holding a spear stabbed into the heart.
