Strange creatures on the ocean floor

A sea mouse (also called a deep sea) has been hit by a storm on the Kent coast (England). Usually, this species is found at depths of more than 2,000m.

This sea mouse over 10cm long is detected while lying between pebbles and seashells thanks to its shining bristles. This species can be up to 30cm in length and usually lives below the intertidal zone in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Their backs are covered with a reddish-green coat in a special protection mechanism.

Because they cannot see the road, they position themselves with tentacles (small feathered appendages like paddles). These tentacles help them find dead bodies and decaying sea creatures. They are hermaphrodites with reproductive functions of both genders found in the same body and are often washed ashore after the storm.
