Disaster and miraculous escapes

Survive in the sea

Typhoon (called Pacific Ocean) seen from satellite images are giant swirls covering thousands of kilometers, creating standing waves like a wall over ten meters tall. Standing in front of this "god of the sea" , ships weighing tens of thousands of tons are like fragile leaves. So, two fishermen Atabu Baiaa , 32 years old and Ruben Baeke , 22, of Kiribati Island (Pacific Ocean), escaped after 57 days of floating at sea without food and drinks.

In extreme conditions, the most difficult thing to survive is drinking water. People can starve for months, but lack of water for only a few days will result in death. Moreover, every day the body loses about 1.5 liters of water through the excreted route. If exercising, more water is lost. In order to survive, two lucky fishermen drank precious rain drops and the juice from the fish caught. They even had to drink sea water. The only food is raw fish meat.

In addition, usually after only a few days drifting on the sea, people will fall into a state of panic, sometimes the victims will die of fear before their energy resources run out. But those 2 fishermen still have good psychological state. When a Papua New Guinea ship rescued them, the sailors were surprised to learn that the health of 2 fishermen was still good after the horrific challenges they had experienced. This is probably one of the luckiest cases in history.

Survive between desert sand storms

The Taklamakan Desert located in the Tarim Basin in northwestern Xinjiang, China, is one of the largest deserts in the world. There is a difference in temperature to scary. In the evening the temperature may drop to negative, in contrast to the daytime, hot to over 40 degrees C.

In such harsh conditions, Alexander Zverev (Russian) was rescued after 25 days of distress. People found him in a state of exhaustion. To fight the night cold, Zverev slept in a cave, he made a bed with a tree branch. Zverev said the helmet saved his life because it had a heat-retaining layer and when night fell, he put it under his back so his body wouldn't lose heat. When Zverev was found, rescue workers could not believe that their efforts paid off, as Zverev was lost in a too wide and harsh area.

Pass the ice

Cold ice, sometimes as low as - 40 degrees Celsius is always a challenge for all creatures. At very low temperatures, the human body falls into a state of heat loss. Accompanying are the effects on the cardiovascular and nervous system, which can lead to necrosis of organs such as limbs. Sunlight reflected on snow ice can cause visual burns .
