Strange frogs in the world

In addition to the ability to swallow food with the support of the eyes, some frogs also have strange characteristics such as taking children out of their mouths or laying directly into tadpoles instead of eggs.

Swallow food with eye support

According to Christopher Raxworthy, a researcher at the American Museum of Natural History, many frogs can swallow food with their eyes."When they hold their prey in their mouths, they pull down the eyeball to push the food down their throat , " Raxworthy said.

Giant frog

Goliath is the largest frog in the world. A frog can grow 38cm in length and weighs 3.2kg. This species is abundant in the equatorial forests of West Africa.

Baby's mouth

Stomach hatching is an unusual feature of a frog belonging to the Rheobatrachus genus in Australia. The female frog lays eggs as usual, then the male releases sperm to the egg for fertilization. However, at this time, the female will swallow all the fertilized eggs into the abdomen and stop the enzyme activity that breaks down the food in the stomach. The tadpole develops in the stomach and the mother frog will give birth to the baby by mouth.

According to scientists, these two species of special fertile frogs have become extinct since the mid-1980s.

Big on mother's back

Pipa pipa has a flat shape like pancakes and lives completely in water. After the female lays eggs, the male releases sperm to fertilize. The egg will then attach to the porous tissue on the mother's back and grow there. As adults, the toads will jump off their mothers' backs.

Most frogs fertilize outside. When mating, males release sperm and fertilize eggs from females. Frog eggs will grow through the tadpole stage (immature frog larvae) in the water and gradually change into adult frogs.

Meanwhile, Limnonectes larvaepartus frogs live in rainforest in Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, considered the only species in nature that lays directly into tadpoles instead of eggs.
