Students of one of the world's poorest countries invented a way to start cars with fingerprints

A group of 9 students at Makerere Computer and Information Technology University, Uganda invented a way to start the car with fingerprints instead of using keys.

They are: Ernest Ojakol, Michael Mawejje, Mark Musinguzi, Sheila Ankunda, Dominic Walusimbi, Nicholas Kayola, Anxious Ainebyona and Joseph Kitamirike. The 9th is David Tusubira from the technical technology college.

This invention of nine students was named Kuwanza Gari (meaning " start the car ").

Cars start with fingerprints without using a key.

To install fingerprints, the owner will have to place their finger in the system, and the fingerprint will be saved in the fingerprint module . Fingerprint module has 2 buttons: one button to add fingerprints and the other button to remove fingerprints. In case the car owner wants to sell the car or wants to change his fingerprint.

Ojakol said: "The owner must go through a new confirmation step to add or remove fingerprints, our system can store 5 fingerprints, which means the owner can choose 4 more people. Can use my car. "

Mark Musinguzi said that the fingerprint-starter system is also equipped with an LCD screen, which displays the operation steps of the system such as: erasing fingerprints, adding fingerprints, starting the car or error if fingerprint is not saved in memory.

Anxious Ainebyona added that their system also has a GSM module (Global System for Mobile), which works when a person is trying to start the car without fingerprints sending a scene message. notify the owner of the vehicle (when the owner has installed the phone number).

Car start with fingerprints is very secure and extremely safe.

Although the current fingerprint-starter system is still a prototype, they hope to be able to complete it and be noticed by car companies.

In addition, they are hatching plans to design other biometric identification types for starting cars because some people have faded fingerprints.

Currently, the system of these nine students is only being run by a laptop's battery but still not enough energy, they are expected to test the connection with a car battery.

In order to make a complete product, they need $ 500 and will have to save their own money to do it.

Dr. Julianne Sansa-Otim, the faculty of computer science at Makerere School, pledged that the school will assist students in registering a patent for this invention.

The school can also introduce potential investors who can turn these students' inventions into reality.
